Our little studio in Ipswich keeps finding rough neck talent, most recently in the form of melodic grime spitters with a love of pop and purple by the name of Purple Set. Quite a big crew so too many to mention, but Kiddot & Naughtie, the main vocalists and spitters stand out as well as some very solid singers; Emz who sings the Bruno Mars hook in the video posted below knocked our socks off in the studio.
These young guys have so much energy in the studio but are so prolific, producing four or five tracks in three hours, they typically leave 10 minutes at the end of session for mixing down and mastering. Hopefully more of thier tracks will come out soon if they could just stop coming up with new bars and hooks and song ideas!
A round up here of some tracks on the web that are putting us in the mood for Notting Hill Carnival 2010. Played a lot of these tracks on DJ Breeze' show this week, you can listen to me ramble on about these tracks in more detail on the listen again. First up is an inspired track from Roots Manuva (Ft Riddla) by the name of Butterfly Crab Walk. This track with the cheekiest chorus ive heard has to be about Butterfly Walk in Camberwell; a record advising you to sober up if your drinking Tennants and sew up the hole in your socks was made for one of the scruffiest corners of Sarf London. Big up the Big Dadda and Wrongtom for this one.
We also love this track from Harlesdon hero Gappy Ranks. 'Put the Stereo On' is a uk reggae treat that honours Sir Coxon, Peckings and of course Studio One. Crappy . Youtube version below, make sure u get the proper download here.
Mixing the roots & reality concious vibe with UK Hip Hop is grime favorite Durrty Goodz with 'Gunshot'. Very much in the spirit of Roots Manuva, Rodney P and Akala in bashment mode, we like this change in direction and we like the furry face furniture (side boards) that Durrty is sporting in this video!
Finally we enjoyed playing this dubstep mash of Alborosie on the radio thursday night, had fun mixing in the samples from the Dub Siren App on the Ipod Touch, especially the Jahtari Riddim Force fx they can save the messiest of train crash mixes!

A special treat for you all, a mix from our good friend DJ Crash n Burn (link to his website). Fast becoming a world leading DJ, collector and authority in Rock n Roll and Cumbia and Calypso with residencies all over London and beyond. This is one of my fave mixes from him that covers a wide selection of slinky and seductive tunes from a range of genres, you may well know some of them; but includes some real rarities and is an inspired selection bound to please the sample spotters! Crash Landin! The man himself!
Born in Brazil, but 'cut his teeth' on the DJ circuit in Leeds, West Yorkshire in the early/mid nineties with his involvement in the often absurd, bizzare but always inspired club night 'Its Obvious' the 'Anti Club-Club'. His three deck mixes with collaborator Rich Williams which were the backing soundscapes to Trapeeze, Knife Throwers (trained circus performers only, it wasnt that sort of night even if Leeds was a bit rough neck in the nineties!) and random crowd generated events like jumble sales, builders corner and proto burlesque style performances from members of its totally bonkers following.
Check out this vintage mix from the Leeds Warehouse (sorry no set list, feel free to spot & post the tunes on soundcloud):
Uploaded here is the latest mix from the 2Bob, which is going out on the airwaves tonight on DJ Breeze Urban Beat Show (ICRFM 105.7FM www.icrfm.co.uk ) A blend of roots reggae mashed up in a dub step style inspired the brilliant 'Dubsteppin' mix from Shimmy Shimmy that i cut up and added to few tracks from the excellent Scotch Bonnet records. Have to make a special mention to Brixton based Brother Culture who teamed up with Mungo's Hi Fi to produce the awesome track 'Wickedness' (Last few 7" copies still available at Scotch Bonnet records)
We are delighted to post Jahmai and Luca's new track 'London Life'. Check out http://www.youtube.com/user/bonetmusic for more from Luca. Jahmai has extra tracks in our our reverb nation player and new tracks will be posted on to it soon.
